Key concepts and when to use them

Asset delivery is the use of approved images and documents in a customer-facing experience. It depends on the asset relationship, its role, the record that owns that relationship, and the destination that uses it. Delivery is not the same as uploading a file.

Permissions and preparation

Agree the required image and document roles with the destination owner. Admins and editors can prepare product media. Viewers can inspect whether the expected media is present.

Steps

  1. Define the roles each product type needs, such as main image, gallery image, or document.
  2. Attach assets to the relevant product, category, brand, or custom record.
  3. Add accurate titles and alternative text in the required languages.
  4. Review representative records and their intended destination.
  5. Replace obsolete relationships carefully and recheck the destination after an important media change.

Verification

Check a typical product, a variant, and an exception. Confirm that the correct media is selected, images describe the actual item, and documents are current and understandable.

Common mistakes and rules

  • Do not assume an uploaded file is ready for customer-facing use.
  • Do not rely on a product-family ownership relationship; it is not a supported general asset owner.
  • Do not use the same image for visibly different variants without a deliberate decision.

Work through a representative example

For a chair sold in more than one colour, attach the shared care document to the parent product. Use a variant-specific image only when the colour or supplied item is visibly different. Check the main image, gallery order, and document from the record detail before the destination owner reviews the result. This keeps shared media reusable while making genuine differences clear.

Do not attach the parent image to a variant whose colour is not shown by that image. Confirm the record detail still selects the right role after a replacement.
