What the Assistant does
The embedded Assistant lets you ask questions about product information from inside Origo. It can search and inspect catalog data. When your role and tenant settings allow it, the Assistant can also prepare catalog changes for review: not only products and product attributes, but also categories, brands, channels, classifications, associations, assets, lists and other catalog records. One request can prepare several changes as a plan. It does not apply a proposed change by itself.
Treat each answer as working guidance. Check important facts against the product record, especially before you use an answer in a customer-facing channel.
Before you start
Your Origo plan and rollout must include Assistant access. Confirmed writes require separate rollout approval. Within those bounds, an administrator enables the Assistant, configures a default AI provider, decides whether eligible catalog writes are allowed, and sets usage limits. If chat is unavailable, open the dock and follow its guidance. Ask an administrator to check the tenant setup when needed.
Ask with catalog context
- Select Assistant in the top bar to open the dock.
- Use the Chat view and enter a clear question about the catalog.
- Review the answer and the tool progress shown in the conversation.
- Select Stop if you no longer need the current request.
The Assistant uses the current page and product as context. On a product page, it also uses the active tab. This context helps it answer questions about the record already in view. The dock refreshes its context when you move to another supported page or tab.
Use a capability starter
The Capabilities view offers three guided starting points:
- Search products finds products and inspects their catalog data.
- Enrich current product reviews the open product and prepares focused changes for confirmation. Open a product detail page to use this starter.
- Missing product data reviews gaps and prepares focused fixes for confirmation.
Select Start chat to put the starter request in Chat. You can edit the request before you send it. A starter guides the task; it does not approve a write.
Review proposed changes
A write starts as a prepared change. Review the displayed difference and its status. Admins and editors can select Confirm change while the proposal is current and catalog writes are allowed. Every proposed catalog change needs explicit confirmation. A change that cannot be undone, such as a delete or a merge, carries an Irreversible marker. If the source record changed after preparation, create a new proposal instead of forcing the old one through.
When one request prepares more than one change, the changes appear together as a numbered Plan in the order Origo will run them. Confirm a step on its own, or select Apply all to work through the plan from the top. Applying stops at the first step that does not succeed and leaves the remaining steps waiting for confirmation, so review those before you continue.
Do not retry a proposal when Origo says that its result is unknown. Open History and let Origo verify the result. Expired proposals also require a new preparation.
Access by role
- Administrators and editors can ask questions, review proposals, and confirm eligible changes when catalog writes are enabled.
- Viewers can ask questions, but cannot confirm changes.
Viewer access stays read-only. A tenant can also disable catalog writes for everyone while keeping read-only Assistant questions available.
Conversation history
Open History to revisit recent chats. Conversations stay available for 30 days after your last message. Select Delete beside a conversation to remove it. Start a new chat when an old conversation contains context that no longer applies to your task.
When chat is unavailable
The dock explains when the provider, monthly request allowance, or another safety limit prevents chat. On a supported product page, it can offer Copy AI prompt as a fallback. Review that prompt before you use it elsewhere.
If a long request reaches a safety limit, send a shorter or simpler request. Split a broad audit into smaller questions. Ask an administrator to review the tenant limits only when the dock identifies a configured limit as the cause.
Admin controls
Within the plan and rollout bounds, administrators control the default provider, Assistant availability, catalog-write access, request and token limits, how long a single answer may take, and tenant instructions. Tenant instructions can guide normal catalog work, but they cannot replace Origo safety rules. People using the dock cannot choose a provider or change these controls.
Review the products and variants, attributes, and best practices guides for the catalog rules that remain important when you work with the Assistant.
